Come out every Saturday morning to the corner of Illinois and Vine in Downtown Urbana to The Market at the Square! Join thousands of residents and visitors during the Market Season and connect with growers. Choose locally-raised food and treasure-hunt among the art and craft vendor booths. Gather info about local non-profits, schools, and other community groups on our Community Row. Catch up with friends, take in some music from local performers, and enjoy the public square atmosphere the Market at the Square has to offer!
2014 Grand Prairie Friends Native Plant Sale
Saturday May 10th, 2014 from 8 am to 1 pm
Inside Lincoln Square Village, downtown Urbana
There will be dozens of prairie plants along with additional woodland species and herbs for sale at reasonable prices. Native plants provide important sources of nectar and food for native insects and other wildlife, including bees and the Monarch butterfly, whose populations are threatened. Champaign-Urbana Herb Society Plant Sale
Our annual plant sale will take place from 8 am to 1 pm on Saturday, May 10, at Lincoln Square Village in Urbana. All proceeds from this plant sale will go towards book donations to area libraries, mini-grants to schools, and to our educational public herb gardens at Meadowbrook Park and the Urbana Free Library. This event will be held in conjunction with the plant sales of Grand Prairie Friends, Central Eastern Illinois Beekeepers Association, African Violet Society, and St. Joe Wetland Assocation. Starting a Small Business Workshop
The Starting a Small Business workshop provides an overview of the steps needed to open a business. The course includes help with defining your business, conducting an analysis of the competition, marketing, understanding cash flow, as well as numerous tips to be successful in a small business startup. A workbook is provided. All workshops are held at the Champaign County Chamber of Commerce, 303 West Kirby Avenue, Champaign, IL 61820 (next to Jarling's Custard Cup). Cost per workshop is $25. 5K Grow & Go
Celebrate Illinois farm families and the important role they play in putting food on your table.
Hosted entirely on the grounds of the Illinois Farm Bureau, COUNTRY Financial and GROWMARK Headquarters on Towanda Avenue in Bloomington, the 5K course has a cross-country feel with well maintained grass, pavement and a few rolling hills. Finishing times and results provided by the Lake Run Club of Bloomington/Normal. Youth ten and under can participate in the Cock-a-Doodle Dash quarter mile race where everyone wins an award!
Participants will learn more about our roots in agriculture while supporting a great cause.
Proceeds from this race benefit Illinois Agriculture in the Classroom, a program providing free resources to teachers in an effort to help students make the connection between food, fiber, fuel and farming.
After the race/walk participants are invited to join an indoor open house featuring a hot breakfast and family fun activities. Kids will enjoy interactive learning stations and activities led by Illinois Agriculture in the Classroom staff and runners will appreciate unique tractor awards for 1st and 2nd place finishers in 5-year age categories.

Join the fight against cancer at the 2014 MINI Relay May 10th at Centennial High School. Cancer affects us all. If itâ€™s someone in our family, one of our close friends, or one of our coworkers, we all know someone who has battled against cancer.
